Steven Grant

Steven Grant is a comic-book writer active since the late 1970s, best known for reviving Marvel’s Punisher and creating the female ninja Whisper. Grant’s career spans mainstream, creator-owned crime/superhero, and licensed books, with a focus on character-driven storytelling.

His Marvel Comics credits include: 1985–86 Punisher miniseries (with Mike Zeck; also 1989 Return to Big Nothing GN); The Avengers; fill-ins on Incredible Hulk, Marvel Team-Up, Spectacular Spider-Man, What If?, Moon Knight; co-wrote Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions (1982); concluded Steve Gerber’s Omega the Unknown in The Defenders; later X-Man (with Warren Ellis).

Some of his Creator-owned & independent titles include: Whisper (debut Capital Comics 1983; ongoing series + Special + First Adventures at First Comics 1986+); Psychoblast (First); American Flagg! (First, succeeding Howard Chaykin); Shatter fill-ins; Classics Illustrated (First).

For DC Comics, Steven revamped Manhunter and Challengers of the Unknown; stories featuring Batman, Superman, Grifter.

At Dark Horse, he did the full run of X (Comics’ Greatest World, incl. Comeback/Hell Night); creator-owned Enemy; Alien 3 adaptation.

Some of his later work includes 2 Guns (BOOM! Studios, 2013 film adaptation); Edge (w/ Gil Kane, Malibu/Bravura); Damned (w/ Zeck, WildStorm/Homage); Badlands (Vortex); CSI comics + Whisper one-shot (IDW); Mortal Souls, My Flesh Is Cool, RoboCop screenplay adaptation (Avatar Press); licensed titles incl. GI Joe, Masters of the Universe, Vampirella, Mickey Mouse, Stone Cold Steve Austin.
