D. G. Chichester is a comic book writer and editor who began his career writing after studying filmmaking at New York University. He started as an assistant editor and rose to editor at Epic Comics imprint (1987–1989), overseeing acclaimed titles like Stray Toasters, Marshal Law, and Groo the Wanderer.
His breakout writing credits with Marvel include Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1990–1992. He co-created the Midnight Sons supernatural corner of the Marvel Universe with Nightstalkers (1992–1993) and crafted the horror title Terror Inc., featuring the ruthless mercenary. Chichester also introduced Clive Barker’s Hellraiser and Nightbreed to mainstream comics.
Chichester is best known for his extended run on Daredevil (#292–342, plus later issues, 1991–1995, 1998). Key arcs include “Fall of the Kingpin,” which dismantled Wilson Fisk’s empire, and the controversial “Fall From Grace,” where Matt Murdock adopted an armored costume. He later wrote the crossover Daredevil/Batman: Eye for an Eye—the first official team-up of the two characters.
Beyond Marvel, Chichester contributed to Motorhead for Dark Horse, Charlemagne for Defiant, Sliders for Acclaim, Judge Dredd for DC, and pioneering digital/animated Cybercomics featuring Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the X-Men.
