On television, Ryan gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of John Constantine in the NBC series Constantine (2014-2015), a role he later reprised on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, as well as in the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Ryan became a fan favorite and led to further opportunities in the DC universe.
In Gaming, Matt is the voice of Edward Kenway in the hit video gam Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
His additional TV credits include roles in Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Tudors, and The Halcyon. He has also lent his voice to numerous animated projects, most notably as the voice of John Constantine in the DC Animated Movie Universe, including films like Justice League Dark and Constantine: City of Demons.
Ryan has an extensive theater background and and his credits include his role as Gerard in Peter Gill’s Small Change (2008) opposite Luke Evans and later Gilbert in Yaël Farber’s Knives in Hens (2017). Ryan joined Michael Grandage’s productions for standout Shakespearean roles, including Horatio in Hamlet (2009) opposite Jude Law—transferring to Broadway—and Fluellen in Henry V (2014) in the West End. His additional credits include Cliff in Look Back in Anger at the Royal Court (2012) and Caliban in The Tempest at Theatre Royal, Bath.
Ryan’s theater work culminated in a notable Broadway debut with the 2015 Roundabout Theatre production of Thérèse Raquin, where he portrayed Laurent opposite Keira Knightley.
