Cheers, Fletch, Da Bears
George began his acting career working for The Second City, a Chicago-based improv theater group. He would land small roles in the television shows Taxi, Soap, and M*A*S*H. In 1982, George began his stint of 271 episodes as Norm Peterson on Cheers, alongside another Washington State Summer Con guest, John Ratzenberger. George would be nominated for six consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards (1984-1989) before Cheers ended its run in 1993 after eleven seasons.
Wendt was a frequent guest on Saturday Night Live, hosting and portraying Bob Swerski, one of the Chicago Superfans. After his time on Cheers, George acted in movies such as Fletch with Chevy Chase, Guilty by Suspicion with Robert DeNiro, Forever Young with Mel Gibson, and Man of the House with Chevy Chase again.
His portrayal of Norm Peterson proved to be so popular that the character crossed over to appear in other shows such as: Frasier, The Tortellis, St. Elsewhere, Family Guy and The Simpsons.
George will be with us both days of the Washington State Summer Con, meeting his fans, taking professional photo ops, signing autographs, and speaking on a panel. There will also be an opportunity to get your photo taken with George and John together in a duo photo op. Don’t miss your chance to meet one of our favorite comedians and the man behind Norm!
